Nov 15, 2017. World COPD Day, a look at the many faces of COPD. WEST SPRINGFIELD - The Big E is well known across New England and beyond as a hot spot for great fun, great food and drink and great entertainment. The 2017 season has proven to expand on that reputation with the addition of some exciting new options to 'wet your whistle' in your travels throughout the fairgrounds. One major change this year is to the fairgrounds Big E Martini Bar, found near Gate 5. The bar serves up refreshing cocktails in their signature red stem Big E martini glasses. This year, festival goers have been pleasantly surprised with the addition of a second floor with a full bar and viewing platform added onto the tent. The second floor is a great spot to get off your feet, sit down on one of their many couches and watch a sporting event on one of their TV's, or, if you're looking for a view find your way over to one of the tables overlooking the fairgrounds and you won't be disappointed. Also found near Gate 5, this spot brings the excitement and relaxation of the beach to West Springfield. Taking up one tier of the grand stairs in the flag plaza next to the Big E stage, this bar comes complete with several blue Adirondack beach chairs and even a truckload of sand, perfect for those who would like to sit back, grab a nice cold bucket of rum punch or 'swamp water' and dig their toes in the sand. If you enjoy great brews, make a stop at any one of the beer dispensaries offering brews from around the region at festival favorites like the Hofbrauhaus Oktoberfest Biergarten, the Opa Opa Saloon, the New England Craft Brew Pub, Storrowton Tavern, the Samuel Adams Brew Garden, the Fort's Wurst Haus and the Bud and Burger Pub amongst others. Be sure to stop into the Young building as well to learn about and experience the Spencer Brewery and their monastery-inspired dining hall, tasting room and educational experience. The Big E runs through October 1 with plenty of exciting events still to come. For more information on daily activities, visit MassLive's official Big E page.
